Perfect shoes for a wedding? Brides should look for comfortable shoes, whether flats, platforms, heels, or wedding ballet shoes, & consider personal style & the location.

What makes the perfect shoes for a wedding? Whether you're looking for flats, platforms, heels, or wedding ballet shoes, it might seem tricky to find the right pair. But there are plenty of options for comfortable bridal shoes available in every imaginable color and style.

Choosing Comfortable Wedding Shoes

Style is important – but remember, in the quest for the perfect bridal footwear, to think of comfort, too. The bride will be standing on her feet for most of the day, and any pair of shoes – much less formal dress shoes – can start to feel tight or uncomfortable under that kind of time strain.

Be sure to pick shoes that seem completely comfortable to begin with, and wear them around the house with big socks for a day or two before the wedding to make sure they are a good fit and that they are stretched enough to feel good even at the end of a long day.

For brides who are going to be doing a lot of dancing at the reception, pick comfortable shoes that are going to feel good to move in. If it's going to be a beach wedding, choose a sandal or flip flop that won't be irritating to wear in the sand.

If the train of the wedding dress is long and elaborate, avoid spike heels or any kind of platform that might cause a tear in the dress or a trip on the walk down the aisle. With a long train or skirt, the shoes are hardly going to be seen at all, so focus on finding a comfortable shoe with a pretty toe.

White, Ivory, Silver, Clear or Colored Wedding Shoes

Though traditional wedding shoes are supposed to match the color of the dress, there are many modern options that add a little extra flair to the bride's ensemble.

  • Traditional Colors: More typical colors include white, silver, ivory or clear wedding shoes. It's easy to find dyeable wedding shoes whose color can be perfectly matched to the bride's dress, or that can be dyed after the wedding an reworn for years to come in a more usable color than white.
  • Pink Wedding Shoes: Pink shoes are hot for weddings right now, with many brides choosing to accent a conventional white gown with hot pink or delicate pink footwear that matches the décor at the wedding and reception.
  • Blue, Red or Gold Bridal Shoes: Almost equally popular (and certainly on the rise) are blue, red and gold shoes, all of which are beautiful accents to a colored wedding gown or a gown with colored sash or details.
  • Beaded or Rhinestone Wedding Shoes: Decorated shoes covered in hand beadwork or rhinestones remain an attractive and memorable touch.

Wedding Bridal Shoes – Styles

There are as many styles in bridal footwear as there are dresses, from silk and satin formal shoes to wedding ballet shoes, flats, and strappy sandals. The most important thing in deciding on a style is to match the dress, the wedding décor, and to find a shoe that makes the bride happy, both in terms of its look and its fit.

It's worth the effort to keep looking until you find the perfect, one-of-a-kind pair of shoes for the one-of-a-kind day.
