Replicas of Eowyn's white dress from The Two Towers or Carrie Fisher's original Star Wars costume are quirky choices for the geeky bride.

Elvish and Lord of the Rings Wedding Dresses

Rivendell Bridal features dresses with names such as 'Lorien' and 'Galadriel'; some based on costumes worn in the LOTR movies, others simply designed according to an 'elvish' look. Lord of the Rings-themed weddings have been known to happen since JRR Tolkien released the book in 1954, but have gained in popularity following the release of the Peter Jackson films. Obvious choices for wedding dresses include replicas of Eowyn's and Galadriel's white dresses, or the wedding gowns of Arwen or Sam's bride Rosie. Arwen also wears a white gown on the bridge at Rivendell during The Fellowship of the Ring, and another white dress which is briefly seen as she dismounts Asfaloth upon her first meeting with Frodo.

Star Wars Wedding Dresses

Thanks to Princess Leia's penchant for wearing white, there are plenty of bridal gown choices within the Star Wars films. The Princess wears two white dresses in the first film—a high-necked dress for most of the film, and a more formal scoop-necked dress during the final celebration scene. In Attack of the Clones, Amidala marries Anakin in a long-sleeved gown made of lace. Padme also wears pale-coloured gowns known as the Parade Gown, the Tatooine Attire and the Villa Retreat Gown, at various points throughout the prequel trilogy.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Wedding Dresses

Three wedding dresses appear in BtVS. Angel dreams of marrying Buffy in 'The Prom' (3.20). In his dream sequence Buffy's dress in an off-the-shoulder V-neck with a bouffant skirt. In 'Something Blue' (4.09), Buffy is caught by Riley staring at a wedding dress in a store window. Anya's dress, seen in 'Hell's Bells' (6.16) and again in 'Selfless' (7.05), is a strapless fishtail dress with heavy beadwork.

Other Buffy dresses which could be adapted as wedding gowns include Dawn's magically-appearing pale-blue 'wedding' dress in 'Once More, With Feeling' (6.07) and Tara's dancing dress in the same episode.

Firefly Wedding Dresses

Technically, Saffron and Mal are the only characters in Firefly to get married. However, many of Inara's sumptuous costumes could be worn as-is or in white for an elegant wedding. Less elegant but delightful is Kaylee's 'layer cake' ruffled hoop dress from 'Shindig' (1.04). Zoe wears a white dress at the end of Serenity (the movie), at the burial of her husband Wash. Also in Serenity, Mr Universe has a robot bride who wears a traditional white dress.

Star Trek Wedding Dresses

Some Trekkie brides decide to forgo the traditional wedding gown altogether and get married in dress uniform or a skant. There are, however, a number of dressier Star Trek options available. Counselor Troi gets married in a two-piece pink wedding dress at the beginning of Star Trek: Nemesis. Kamala wears an white and gold gown in 'Perfect Mate' (TNG 5.21). Keiko O'Brien's wedding attire can be seen in 'Data's Day' (TNG 4.11), and T'Pol's purple wedding dress in 'Home' (ENT 4.3). Jadzia Dax wears a scarlet Klingon dress with a cutout bodice in 'You Are Cordially Invited' (DS9 6.07). Marrying Captain Sisko, Kasidy Yates wears a grey, slim-fitting wedding gown in 'Till Death Do Us Part' (DS9 7.18).
